MARC THÉRÉNÉ

GRADUATE OF “L'ECOLE ESTIENNE”

SCHOOL OF ART AND GRAPHIC INDUSTRIES IN PARIS, SPECIALISING IN TYPOGRAPHY

CROSS-DESIGNER :  ARTISTIC DIRECTOR / GRAPHIC DESIGNER / TYPOGRAPHER / PHOTOGRAPHER, ILLUSTRATOR... AND CREATOR OF IMAGINARY FLOWERS AND GARDENS

Marc Théréné was a graphic designer / illustrator then creative Director for leading cosmetic brands. After retiring, he spent the last four years entirely invested in his “Dancing Flowers”

Marc Théréné tells us about his work :

“At first there’s always a photograph of a flower, usually dried. Then, I print the photo  onto the appropriate paper according to the technique used to “colourize” the print. Watercolor, ink, oil, gouache or all three! There’s no rule. The “colorized” print is then scanned and possibly remastered on the computer ( it was the case for the Psychedelic Flowers series), then multiplied to make imaginary gardens or flowers. Sometimes, it’s just part of a flower that I incorporate into an illustration. Once again, there’s no set rule. The result is printed with certified Digigraphy on FineArt paper. I suggest that those interested in my work, come to my home or to my exhibitions, because the pictures online do not do justice to the quality of the paper or the prints which are produced with a minimum of eight colours.”

After more than a dozen solo regional exhibitions (see his site), for the Centenary of the Goncourt Book prize, awarded to the book “A l’ombre des jeunes filles en fleurs (“In the shadow of budding young girls”), he has shown works  illustrating Proust’s texts on flowers (Tribute Exhibition to Marcel) throughout 2019, at “Aubépines”, Marcel Proust’s home town of  Illiers-Combray. In 2020 he’ll exhibit at the “Grand Monarque” Hotel-Restaurant in Chartres and at Nankin in China.

Marc Théréné has just edited a beautiful 144-page, stitched, hard-back book of the finest quality, that presents some extracts of exhibitions showing the evolution of his work from 2016 to 2018. This book and his postcards are on sale on his website and at florists.
